interesting that Temperance is named as one of the Four Virtues outlined by Jennifer Sodini, the other three being prudence, courage, and justice, together comprising a spiritual foundation that can support the “architecture” of the soul. no surprise then that these two appear together just as Pluto has moved in to oppose and challenge your very sense of Leo self. perhaps you are being called into a deeper alignment with your relationship to your personal alchemy, compelled to assess which of the four elements connected within Temperance might be out of balance for you and invited to explore what shifting into realignment might look like for you.

Neptune, while bound to and confounding your already nebulous physical world, illuminates the threads of connection to your mental health space, showing you that efforts made in one reverberate within the other. pain you can undo in the mental health realm has the power to alleviate symptoms currently floating through you.

while Jupiter traveled through your sign, you felt larger than life, abundance oozing from your seams. now that Jupiter has departed and Saturn has moved in, that bubble of radiant joy may feel that its been burst, and spaces where potential seemed to flow suddenly meet road blocks and barricades. this month, search beyond the initial wounding of this shift and find where Saturn is asking you to find a way to contain the confidence that Jupiter filled you with, which ultimately means carving away at some of the visions in order to hone what is truly possible on this realm in this time. Saturn’s presence may feel more easeful over time, but for now, remember that this process serves to highlight your most potent ideas now, and releasing that which cannot manifest now does not deplete you of your great magic.

the moon reminds us of the ever-changing tides that shift and shape the possibilities that come through connection, and if the tide currently feels out for you, it will soon return. Virgo highlights the opportunity to check in with those near and dear, and the nine suggests that wishes can come true when we choose to lean into our tangible tools now.

MARCH ORACLESCOPES

March is a pretty wild ride.

Venus meets up with Jupiter on the 1st, emboldening us in all our rambunctious cuteness to be Out There and take up space through indulgent connection. Mercury moves into Pisces on the 2nd just after tying up loose ends with Saturn. allow for dreaminess, poetry, losing track of time and space, revisiting some favorite memories on a whim, and double-checking all your locks. Venus embraces Chiron on the 3rd, which might bring up some sensitive personal material for us to make peace with or share with another. no worries, we get an identity upgrade when the sun gets an airdrop from Uranus on the 6th. just in time for a sticky full moon in Virgo on the 7th, which involves a frustrating square to Mars and a delusion-revealing opposition to Neptune. the same day, Saturn moves into Pisces, and we may be confronted with some call to accept what is not and redefine what is. Venus in Aries helps us bounce back with a few kisses from ruler Mars in Gemini on the 11th, the same day Mercury helps us unpack that Uranus download and spread the word about our new selves & ideas. Jupiter meets Chiron on the 11th as well and, without any fault of his own, perhaps rubs a bit of salt into the metaphorical wound - it was only in search of Jupiter that Saturn descended to Earth and threw himself onto the woman who would abandon Chiron at birth. consider the spiritual elements within this experience if you are able, or give yourself the chance to dip out of whatever feels too grandiose or out of proportion. lean on that positive Venus/Mars and Mercury/Uranus energy to shift out of what feels uncomfortable and connect with others on your philosophical findings.

we have a lot of Neptune to deal with this month, at best an invitation to break free from the norm for a moment and check out outer space, and at worst, a mess of frustration and lack of progress or proof. on the 14th, we encounter our final square between Mars and Neptune, a story that first opened up just before Mars stationed retrograde back on Halloween and repeated not far into said retrograde. on the same day, a third-quarter moon in Sagittarius t-squares the whole show, compelling us into a crisis involving our mind against our spirituality/faith/narrative/purpose. the next day, the sun merges into Neptune, urging us to surrender into the moment and allow for the intangible to commune. on the next day, the 16th, we have a pile-up of epic proportions, with Mercury following the sun straight into the waters of Neptune, the sun confronts Mars, Venus squares Pluto, and Mercury squares Neptune. a lot happens in a very short period of time, so it’s wise to practice regulation on this day and hang tight for Venus’ ingress into Taurus that night, where we can lick our wounds and treat ourselves to comforts. on the 17th, Mercury grants us clarity via its pre-retrograde cazimi (yes, it’s already time to start thinking about our first proper rx of 2023) and Venus in Taurus lends some grounding to Saturn in Pisces. we might gain a little perspective here, burning off the fog of the previous Neptune nonsense. this deepens with Mercury checks in with Pluto in Capricorn on the 18th, helping us receive subterranean messages from our sacral center about our urges and desires before Mercury enters Aries.

Venus meets up with the north node she is ruling on the 20th, revealing to us new connections through the lessons we’ve been learning through the nodal journey. on the same day, the sun finishes the work begun by Mercury in meeting with Pluto, helping us integrate those messages regarding urges and desires into consciousness, and shortly after the sun moves into exaltation in Aries. the new moon on the 21st occurs at 0º of Aries, and to really blow your mind, consider this is where Saturn will meld into Neptune in 2026. shortly before meeting the sun, the moon is ruffled by Mars and transcends the tension through Pluto, bringing us to a place of release of that narrative of tension. later that night, the moon meets Mercury to help us download and shift into new beginnings. Pluto enters Aquarius on the 23rd, opening us up to the first glimpses of the significance of this loooong transit - but we’ve already been shooting down multiple UFOs and we’re still in our first quarter of the year… Mars moves into Cancer on the 25th, dropping us down into our instincts of protecting those we love. Mercury communes with Chiron on the 26th, challenging us to develop language for what aches within us. an embrace with Jupiter the next day gives Mercury much to share and connect with through others and our expanding framework. Mars and Saturn link up in a watery trine from Cancer to Pisces on the 30th, while Venus meets Uranus in Taurus, so expect the unexpected and remain open to intuitive efforts as they support your visions.

the figure in the four of cups could just as easily be mistaken for a fish, for its smallness against the waves of the ocean camoflauges its shape. perhaps they both seek the same answers as they make their way out to sea, though they might not know how to recognize it, and that may be in part because what they seek is still within them at this stage. this month, Mars finally makes headway toward more aligned self-expression, putting to rest a stalemate you’ve been stuck in and allowing you to finally choose your words with more care and ease. the Pisces lymph realm

Pisces rules the lymph within our bodies, moving fluid that processes foreign bodies and illness and maintains immunity and wellness. with a Pisces stellium in the third, I experience emotions that very quickly become information immediately imprinted within my body, so that even long after the emotions have come and gone, you can run your fingers along the etchings that remain. part of this Pisces stellium includes a very burdened Mercury that rules my sixth house, containing Hygeia and Chiron, and anxiety becomes part of the emotional experience that echoes long after the triggers and stressors have resolved.

my lymph has given me a lifetime of contention, with nodes flaring up in real or perceived danger (biological, emotional, whatever) and never fully giving up the ghost when the coast is clear. as a result, I can never tell if I should be concerned with the mysteries that linger within me. I’ve spent decades now chasing possibilities and adopting precautions as the only known method of defense. I’ve explored practices outside of the suggestions of Western medicine, like acupuncture, Chinese herbs, and massages geared toward lymphatic drainage. while none have fully relieved me of this particular buildup, I have found that my weekly bath routine, preceded by a full body brush, has helped me keep things minimally activated and gives me a chance to create a ritual out of maintaining my physical wellness.

in my lymph brush practice, I offer a spontaneous prayer to my body as I make my way up my body with the dry brush, thanking it for all that it has supported me through, for all it has helped me endure and enjoy. how we experience a conjunction is entirely dependent upon the energies and conditions of the planets involved. in most cases, some infusion is made possible or forced now, and whether we have been aware of the energies previously, we are called to witness them in their voracity. ultimately, “the blending of energies can create new perspectives, a sharing of space, and a continuity of understanding from one planet to another,” reads Serpentfire. considering Pluto has been in Capricorn for 16 years, and Mercury is currently clearing its retrograde shadow in this sign, we can guess that the conversation between them on February 10th will provide important insight into the depths of the shifts we’ve felt in this time.

JANUARY ORACLESCOPES

January starts off with a yawn rather than a bang, with our two busiest personal planets, Mercury and Mars, entangled in the game of retrograde. in the background, the social and outer planets as well as the nodes make plans for big shifts across the scope of the year, with Saturn preparing to enter Pisces for good and Pluto trying out the airs of Aquarius in March, Jupiter slowing down to smell and share the roses in Taurus in May, and the nodes shaking up the cardinal signs upon entering the Aries/Libra axis in July. while we have spent the first two years of this decade feeling limited, stuck, restricted, or persecuted, we may find 2023 brings welcome salves to these burns and allows for conscientious choices to move forward.

at this point, both of the retrograde planets, Mars and Mercury, are ultimately under Saturn’s rule. Saturn has taken slowing down to a new level by holding the strings of these personal planets in seeming limbo or worse, mayhem. but the intention is to leave us more sharp-minded and prepared to act toward solidifying our vessel-in-progress before Saturn sets sail for the drifting and nonlinear waters of Pisces. we’ll need to make sure there are no holes in our boats before we leave the shore.

while many of us know that chlorine is primarily used to disinfect all kinds of things, from paper to pools, approximately 20% of chlorine produced is used to develop PVC, the versatile plastic that is used for many purposes, providing flexible structure and insulation to wiring, pipes, cars, blood bags, and vinyl flooring. it is also an oxidizing agent used in a majority of pharmaceuticals. while this deeply retrograde season may have you sterilizing much of your environment, purging past relics and accompanying narratives to create a clean slate from which to start over, it may be important to consider the other ways you can take advantage of this current energy. where is it more appropriate to build flexible structure to support your emotional fulfillment now? what in your life could use an injection of fresh air? it took many years for chemists to actually accept that chlorine was even an element. take heed, too, of where you are working to scrub out imperfections that may actually be critical to the capacity to celebrate joy and connection with those you love.

the story of Greek King Tantalum is one with variations all leading to egregiously offending the gods, the tamest of which finds him guilty of malicious gossip and the most disturbing of which depicts him attempting to feed his son to them as a means to fool them, a trick which failed to go undetected by all except Demeter (Ceres), still distraught from searching for her lost daughter Proserpina (Persephone). after punishing Tantalum, the gods worked together to put his son back together, but as a bite was missing, they had to forge him a prosthetic shoulder from a piece of ivory. tantalum as an element is mainly used to coat other metals within electronic components, but it also catalyzes no immune response in animals and can therefore be used to build surgical implants, for example replacing bone, binding muscle, or connecting torn nerves. corrosion-resistant and incredibly strong, it is quite largely found in nature only in the company of another nearly identical element, niobium, and must be mechanically separated. the cards have laid out a journey of detachment from those who were not able to return your efforts of affection in ways that you needed, a painful process that likely left you feeling betrayed by those you loved while missing pieces of you that you’d once proudly carried. it’s finally time to take a good look at yourself and assess the ways in which you’ve learned to rebuild yourself, replacing those lost fragments with material much stronger, more durable, and less prone to reactivity. what can you be proud of yourself for now? what from your replanted garden is ready to be plucked and enjoyed, and what will you leave on the vine to continue ripening to sweetness?

fluorine is the most reactive of the elements, capable of destroying metals within moments. long used in welding and glass-making, WWII and the development of the atomic bomb called for larger production. used in CFCs as aerosol propellants and refrigerator cooling, it was later banned for its capacity to destroy our ozone layer. even its discovery was contentious, as fluorine sickened those who tried to isolate it, or it destroyed their tools and apparatuses in the process. in small amounts, however, we know fluorine flows through many of our public waterways as a means to strengthen our bones and teeth and prevent cavities, and as a component within Teflon pans to prevent sticking. Scorpio, you’ve had to let go of pieces of yourself this year, or have otherwise had them jolted free from your grippy claws, all in the effort to better your one-on-one relationships. this month may have you assessing your current emotional states and perhaps your typical reactions to others. where are you finding your reactions might be too destructive to that which you actually wish to preserve? where do you need to reassess the dosages you currently give out and the side effects they are creating? there is opportunity to rescale this month, recognizing that it’s not the medicine that is the problem but rather the potency.

with a very brief half-life and otherwise not occurring in nature, working with rutherfordium requires swift reflexes and a keen eye. the Russians and the Americans raced to be the first to create this element; while the Russians technically took their stab at it first, they weren’t able to prove what they had actually created. three years later, the Americans were able to create the element and identify the alpha-decay that was able to prove their efforts, and ultimately they won their bid for the naming rights. rutherfordium continues to only be used in research, and it is believed that there will likely never be enough of it isolated at any point in time for it to be visible. Sagittarius, you are able more than most to contain multiple truths, to trust the proof even if what allows you to is over in a flash. while there will always be conflicting viewpoints on the ownership of truth, on whose story or version of events is the most legitimate, you are on a journey this month to advocate for what you know to be true to you. perhaps the stakes are high in your situation, and perhaps you are racing against another to make your mark. trust that even if it takes a bit longer than you had hoped, you shall have your victory when the chips are all laid out to bare.

on mastering chaos

CW: nightmares, obsessive thoughts, eating disorders, mental health, substance use

as a kid, I used to have obsessive and disturbing nightmares - I’d dream that I would wake up in my bed and endless loops of spiders or roaches would crawl from the corners of the room. I would often wake up screaming or sweating, and my legal father, a psychiatrist, would sit with me and help me make sense of what was happening. fortunately, he happens to have also helped research a book on dreams.

I would have other obsessive thoughts during the daytime - in particular, I would hear a voice every time I thought I did something wrong. it was a deep, stern male voice that would rant obscenities and slurs at me, the meaning of most I would not come to understand for many years, words that would make my gut curl up and my nerves electrify with fear. words I would never, ever use now as an adult.

I was obsessed with the idea of being surveilled, and often while at home I would stop in the middle of an activity and look over my shoulder through the window, expecting to see someone peering in at me. this occurred over many years and still at times, when I’m feeling less than supported in my routines and practices, my suspicions grow around the safety of my person and my dwelling. 

as I grew into adolescence, my obsessions grew darker - I would spend night after night spiraling into databases of missing person reports, news stories about deaths at Disneyland (I am a Southern California girl who grew up listening to Tragic Kingdom lol), freak accidents, flesh-eating bacteria and brain-eating ameoba. when my friends and loved ones weren’t near me and I hadn’t heard from them, I would scour news sources for accidents. I became convinced that I would die unwittingly at the hands of some mysterious, unknown disease.

in school I was known as hyper, talkative, weird and strange, always talking about things other people didn’t want to talk about or were never thinking about in the first place. my attention span was all over the place and so were my emotions. I learned that most people, not even my parents, really knew what to make of me or do with me, and the truth was that I didn’t really have a clue either. I was pretty overwhelmed by my own mind.

I dealt with this in young adulthood as many people do - through abusing substances, disordered eating, and risky behavior. I loved to get my hand on whatever helped me feel quite literally ANYTHING other than what I was always feeling - paranoia, fear, dread, panic, anxiety, confusion, isolation. because I wasn’t learning how to DEAL with any of it, I was masking a mess with an even bigger mess. I alienated myself even further by letting these misunderstood dynamics take full control of me while under the influence, and I only made it harder for me to know myself or reconcile the influence of my mind.

I had been in and out of therapy my whole life - I was court-ordered at 4 due to traumatic and abusive claims being made in the course of my parents’ divorce - and while it was helpful, over time, to be able to give name to some of my experiences, it was still a jarring and surface-level process being led by people who didn’t actually understand where I was coming from. (I’m in school now obtaining a master’s in counseling to help correct this for future generations!)

it wasn’t until I met energetic work that I began to actually be able to create shifts in the working of my inner world. first with Reiki, where I learned that we can manipulate the energies within us, refresh them, rejuvenate them, allow them movement. around this time I was also introduced to the Body Keeps the Score, important work created by a controversial man, but that opened my eyes to the phenomenon that our bodies create and maintain conversations with our physical vessels. through exploring this work, I was able to finally feel some of the stagnance of obsession begin to release. my dreams changed, my thought patterns loosened, and I began to believe that it was actually possible to impact our mental wiring.

it was when I studied hypnosis that I recognized the possibility of actually holding ourselves within or subconscious space, and this was the gamechanger that set me down a whole new pathway of managing my mind. only through holding myself in this space, witnessing my experiences within this lifetime and ones before it, and learning that I can resource myself from within, did I actually develop the capacity to contain a helpful inner voice. I spent the first 33 years of my life harboring enemies within my mind that I didn’t even realize I could exist without, and I’ve spent the past three years exploring the space in my mind finally free of most of the venom voices flowing within me.

in that space, a relationship to my benevolent ancestors has been forged, and I reflect back and wonder if those voices I carried were those of my neglected ancestors trapped in their pain - but that’s for another exploration. I have been able to develop a deep connection of magic through ritual with them, and they assist me with all of my Venusian ritual creations. they have accompanied me on this journey of wrestling control of my mind away from the malevolent influences and establishing a sense of collaboration with my mind.

it’s through this process that I have been able to do the shadow work I have accomplished. it is through this process that I have stepped away from all of my well-worn escape routes. it is through this process that I have been able to understand myself, embrace my scattered shards, and embrace the wealth of magic that is possible through my deep imaginative stores. what were once rampant nightmares are now inspired visions and vivid dreamscapes for me to explore. what were once dark obsessions are now intuitive threads of curiosity. what I once feared I now celebrate and cherish. 

I think this is why hypnosis has become the crux of my work at this time - everything I practice with others is a tool I have mastered for myself and my own well-being. astrology and tarot will always inform this work, and I will always be in conversation with these tools, but it is hypnosis that has really helped to ANCHOR and LIVE OUT the revelations I’ve had through these other modalities.

if you’ve been around here for a bit, you may know that I’ve been spending a lot of time with my plants this year.more about that in the previous installments, but a quick refresher that this solar return, with my sun and Jupiter in the 8th and my 8th on the ascendant, comes during a twelfth house profection year ruled by Jupiter, and my third Jupiter return. at the same time, transiting Pluto is passing over my natal Capricorn Venus and squaring my midheaven/IC line,

my plants have been teaching me so much this year, about themselves and me. I have been a very sporadic plant lover, in that I go through waves of giving them proper attention, thanks to my late-discovered ADHD. it’s not just the attention deficit, but the hyperactivity hits differently as an adult than it did as a kid. more than the jokes you understand once you cross over into your 30s - a deep shift

this most recent full moon in Aquarius hit hard, and on this Saturday post, I’d say I haven’t fully slept since last week. this full moon took place on my solar return Mercury/moon/Saturn sandwich to the degree, and so I have tossed and turned, encountered achy knees and

the plants have been thriving all summer. in this 12th house profection year with my Venus and Mars with Pluto and Vesta in the 6th, I’ve created a lot of balance through my time in service to these life-supporting creatures, and we’ve had a good schedule going. but this past week had some showing signs of distress: incoming growth suddenly fallen or shrunken, new leaves growing in scaly and brown. today, a fresh white root burst from the surface of the soil of my proud ficus, and I understood that I was facing the crisis that comes as we begin to outgrow our container. sometimes we imagine this process to be glamorous - the glow-up, the come-up - when we should remember the caterpillar’s process in becoming a butterfly is quite messy. like plants, our instincts don’t come with a voice, but rather we must pay attention to the signs. the plants who began to suffer did so because they could no longer thrive on the nutrients they had access to, and they needed more space in order to grow strong enough to support incoming growth. the plants I’ve been feeding for months who have produced no new buds could not offer me what they had not the space to create.

and so it feels to move through a twelfth house profection year in an eighth house solar return - feeding myself with wholesome meals and nutrients, expecting growth to be coming forth, realizing that in some ways I too am outgrown, roots circling dry soil in search of the space to grow strong to support incoming growth.

it turns out that when a full moon is arriving in your twelfth house while you’re undergoing a 12th house profection year, a lot of illumination arrives with it.

I worked in the food industry for fifteen years, starting when I was seventeen years old, and for that length of time it became a sport, a game to see how far I could push my body. this is where I recognize my stereotypical Capricorn qualities as a Cap rising with Venus in my first ruling a 10th house south node: school was hard, friendship was harder, but showing up to work was something I could excel in. my undetected ADHD thrived in the fast-paced environment and it was easy to be polite to people in small, detached bursts. I quickly became the Dependable one on the job - I would open the shop and someone would call out and I would stay to close. someone would quit and I would work 14 days in a row. as a manager, I worked my first double while enduring food poisoning. I received so much praise for my commitment, and my bosses’ faith in me, and my faith in their visions, was fuel for my empty sacral center. and because I was always pushing myself to my limit, I felt justified in compensating just as hard, logging long nights at the local bar after my shift and impulse shopping in exhausted stupor. “pleasure” then was one-dimensional and sloppy, a state of being I didn’t connect with and instead pursued through commercially-vetted consumerist practices. STUFF that didn’t fill any void, THINGS that gave temporary joy.

deprogramming from the work hard / play hard lifestyle has involved re-centering into my body. I had a lot of pain and neglect to answer for. in those years, I created chronic conditions that I’m still gently learning about through time and patience. I exacerbated symptoms that I sometimes just need to give space and stillness to. beyond the physical, there has been an overhaul of values and expectations, years of constant movement and productivity that I had to unlearn. I’ve realized how much I was suppressing within me over those years, burying trauma and harmful patterns under a drive to hustle. creating the space to learn about myself allowed for deep release of the need to show up in a way that was creating harm for myself. learning about my specific needs has given me so much guidance toward living in more wellness.

stepping away from PRESSURE allowed me to begin to navigate PLEASURE.

Mars in Taurus rules my north node in Aries, and after years of overthinking it, I’ve come to realize that I am here for experience (Aries) through the lens of embodiment (Taurus). Mars in particular in Taurus is at its slowest, its most rooted, and it asks to take things one step at a time. it asks to stop and smell the roses to remember the sweetness that drives them toward steady progress. it asks for patience in its process. it is through these energies that I will attain the newness that Aries craves. essentially, giving myself grace to steady myself prepares me for exploration.

this is pretty much the opposite of how I had been living.

pleasure nourishes us. pleasure reminds us that our senses are important. pleasure is needed to thrive.

and pleasure looks like so many things. here in this image, it is Friday morning, Venus day in Taurus, and I am allowing myself to ease into the day. I have plenty to do - so, so much to do - yet I am trusting that, if I move in steady time, I will get it all done. pleasure is pacing myself and trusting myself to respond to my energy in each moment. pleasure, sometimes, is going slowly enough to actually enjoy what I’m doing in the moment because rushing won’t help anything happen more efficiently. and yes, for this Mars in Taurus it also looks like surrounding myself with beauty as much as I can to keep myself serene and motivated.

lessons hard learned, that’s for sure.

and it is this trusting myself to move slowly and steadily that allows me to move through 6th and 12th house themes with more ease. when my body flares up, I’m okay to slow down, because I know I’ve paced myself and I know that I’ll continue to make progress when I’m ready. when I don’t sleep well, I am able to still my anxious mind and still stick to my routines for the day, knowing that I’m moving in my own time and able to give myself what I need to move through the day. it’s slow work, but it’s beautiful, human work, and it supports my fourth house north node journey of establishing my own sense of self.

profection year reflections: pt 2

back in March, at the onset of my 12th house profection year with the sun/chart ruler AND timelord in the eighth, I shared with you some of my initial observations. (revisit that post here.) below are my latest reflections.

just before my birthday, I gifted myself a reading with Marcella Kroll, who told me that this year I was invited to renegotiate my contracts with my guides. that while I had signed up to be here at this time to do this work, I no longer had to abide by the previous rules. I was allowed to suit up, step up, and ask for things to move forward on my terms. somehow I sensed this would be true. it was time to meet my masters and strike a new deal.

I’m one quarter of the way into my current 12th house solar return, and at my yearly first quarter square. any profection year involves the themes of the house opposite, and Gemini is my 6th house, so there are many revelations coming to the surface these days. some of you know that my chart ruler, Saturn, sits in its joy in the 12th in Sagittarius, opposite my Chiron and Hygeia. as I sense old mental health narratives unravelling, in tandem with my recent ADHD diagnosis and the accompanying understanding of my sixth house time & routine woes, a singular theme seems to be ringing through. I have realized that my survival depends on my ability to determine what is worth it for me to be here.

and as I’ve considered the various conditions I have for participating on Earth, even simply allowing myself to create conditions for being here, I feel myself growing less hermit-like. I feel myself coming out of my 12th house stories of futility. I find myself feeling less responsible for the state of the world and more permitted to create a world I want to live in. and it somehow feels just the slightest bit freer. it allows me to be more present in the moment rather than anxious about what has not yet transpired. it allows me to just exist rather than attempt to solve. how much easier it is to know the self when you’re simply existing.

diagnosis is a controversial and often abused and abusive process, and everyone should navigate it however feels best for them. for me, it was a huge lightbulb, and necessary in order for me to finally understand myself, to release myself from unhealthy and socially constructed and enforced expectations. it was the final straw that broke the bond to the capitalism camel’s back. I have always known that I needed to do things in my own way, at my own time, and my differences caused me to withdraw for most of my life. but my diagnosis has helped me accept that I’m allowed and designed to move at my own pace. that I understand and process information in my own way. and that people can see what they want to see when they look at me, but only I know what I want and am capable of in any given moment. for me, diagnosis was empowering.

I add the disclaimer that I get to work from home, and go to school from home, and live with a supportive partner who is navigating her own mental health journey and knows exactly how to meet me wherever I am. I recognize that diagnosis as empowerment is a privilege here, and I acknowledge that.

the true benefit of this revelation is that I now have such a deeper intuitive knowledge of the infinite branches of my anxiety. am I anxious because I don’t really want to do this task and I know it’s going to feel boring and require focused attention? or am I anxious because I’ve never done this before and I’m not sure what I’m doing and I might run into an obstacle I won’t know how to tackle?

the funniest revelation is the category of anxiety called “I simply don’t want to be bothered with this but I’m worried someone else cares and therefore I am creating paralyzing guilt.” understanding these different categories has made managing them so much easier. simply acknowledging that a task is going to be boring makes it easier for me to approach it. is that silly? maybe. but it surely is a timesaver and my feelings no longer have to fight me. together, we can accomplish infinitely more than we could when we were on opposite sides.

it’s summer on my balcony, and many of my plants are thriving, which means I’m expecting all of them to thrive. I’m expecting my fig tree to thrive, and instead it’s losing its bottom leaves. I stick it with fertilizer, and it shoots out teeny tiny new growth. I’m expecting my fig tree to thrive, and I’ve left it with over a year’s worth of dirt layered thick on its waxy leaves, blocking its ability to photosynthesize. this afternoon, I spent some time with it, wiping it clean, apologizing for my negligence, as dirt dripped down into the soil below, completing the cycle and returning home. I hope to pay better attention moving forward. it helps to have Vesta, Venus, Mars, and Pluto in my sixth this solar return, making the mundane desirable.

I’ve been learning a lot about plant care, and I’ve only made space for it because I’ve allowed myself to slow down and understand. this past week, I learned how to separate bound roots, sitting patiently with my poor spider plants, breaking one free from its plastic pot. I’d never known that I could gently peel the layers back, that the soft white roots would happily oblige, that I could slice out the murky squishy ones.

a frustration is that, as I learn more about tending to my greenery, I recognize previous missteps and mistakes. a second fig tree’s leaves couldn’t be wiped clean because of a thick coating of neem oil leftover from a nasty bout of fall aphids. every lesson I clear seems to reveal another lesson I’ve yet to learn, another hill to climb. that I’m writing this in the hours of Saturn’s station retrograde are not lost on me.

having a thriving home garden, I know within myself, is something I consider to be worth it.

writing like it’s 2003: a public solar return documentation

I know from the conversations I’ve had this month that a lot of us are experiencing a different, deeper Pisces season this time around. the Piscean ideals and possibilities, as well as the subsequent potential for disappointment, resonate more strongly now, for better or for worse.

I know that for me this has been intensified by the presence of Pluto, who met my natal Venus two days after the beginning of my very eighth house solar return, and meets my midheaven/IC line in a formidable square just after the equinox. these points will both be revisited with Pluto’s retrograde station this spring. near completion is the final conjunction of Chiron to my north node, set for the same day just after the equinox, bringing to a conclusion this past year’s deep dive into my unstructured, chaotic youth and its implications on my ability to show up for my adult life. this twelfth house profection year has begun with deep grief, followed by a near-constant simmering rage.

I find myself angry with just an infinite list of things - so infinite that some of it feels embarrassing to acknowledge, and yet so much so that it feels like an excavation of several lifetimes. and indeed, past life regression has shown me that this theme of anger is something I’ve carried across realms - anger, specifically, about the state of the world I live in, and the trauma lodged within the ones I hold dearest that I can’t resolve for them. anger for the smallest inconveniences and the largest crises. anger that I feel like I have less of a grasp on my mind by the day. anger that I’m still angry that I’ve had to get this far by my own efforts. anger for being taught to suppress my emotions and feeling them somatically. anger that I wake up and this is the world that I am supposed to live in - literally I ask myself minute to minute how this can be the world that I signed up for. the atrocities are boundless.

in past lives, this anger has in some way or another completely consumed me. this anger is so pervasive that time and time again, I have surrendered to its overwhelm. in this lifetime, I feel destined to face this same choice again, to endure the simmer I know now will be a condition of living in this world, at any given incarnation, and to willfully transmute it into something higher to the best of my ability.

I feel that I am being asked to determine for myself, outside of what is asserted by this world I can’t currently stand, what is actually worth it. to consider that time and energy may be truly precious and rare and to be aligned with how I use it as much as I possibly can. to seek out shared ideals and commit to those spaces and communities. I feel that this solar return has a lot of surprises in store.

these days, my astrology text books are mingling with my psychology school books, as I work and go to graduate school and do little else, and I see glimpses of my future practice - researching mental health signatures within natal charts? tracking transits as part of logging moods and behaviors? simultaneously, I hear Captolia’s voice in my head, and I remember that in my youth, all my internet-to-IRL friends came from my deep Livejournal presence, and I feel compelled to log my own Plutonian mental health journey anchored through the lens of this current solar return, as my own astro research into the significant transits I’m experiencing now.

why now? as I mentioned, for this birthday, I received Pluto visiting my natal Venus and squaring my midheaven and IC, right after a lengthy Venus reboot which stationed retrograde on my natal Venus, and stationed direct close to my ascendant. within the sixth of this solar return lies Venus, Mars, and Pluto (and Vesta, as a treat!) all within two degrees of each other, with Venus ruling my third house and IC, and Mars ruling my ninth house, Chiron, and my midheaven. not to mention, my natal IC/midheaven line is flipped this year in my solar return! my natal Venus, who yes, rules and squares my natal Venus, has quite the team in her pit crew this year, and from the sixth house of routine, we apparently have got a lot of work to do.

Mercury and Saturn, near conjunction in my seventh in Aquarius, sandwich my moon this year, a phenomenon that has me quite alienated from my natal 29º Pisces moon. every emotion I have - still far more than I would wish upon any other human - is nipped at the bud and handled for parts by Mercury and Saturn, who make quick business out of finding a damn solution, stat. my feelings are sort of dragged along like a child tired out from tantrum, dead weight but still cooperating. the despondent child in me who has gotten away with never being taught any better can steer the ship no more - it’s time to grow up and show up, partner. it’s one thing to acknowledge that I’ve had to figure things out on my own for a long time. it’s another to continue to let that define me as though it

and then there’s Jupiter, my time lord, tucked away with my chart ruler, the sun, exploring the shadows of my eighth house together. what I have found so far in my reflection is that I see myself as having inherited the darkest shadow sides of all of my parents. my mother’s inability to see things through and the resentment that she casts outward onto anyone who pauses to assist her. my biological father’s anger at his abandonment and his lifelong search for self. my legal father’s blind hunger and ambition at all costs. I feel these course through me and bear their weight with slumped shoulders. I integrate this truth, or I surrender to its power.

it’s here that I have come to understand the timing of my Jupiter return, and more, the significance of Jupiter in my natal chart. out of sect, in accidental detriment, drowning my Pisces stellium and enduring a square to Saturn, the Voldemort of my chart essentially - and yet, somehow forcing me to bounce back from literally everything that plagues me. Jupiter seems to create the chaos and then give me the courage to save myself from it by the end of the episode. here we are, peering into a natally empty space for me, Jupiter - this time in sect - holding the compass and leading the way.

all in all, it’s a tremendous amount to process, and a reminder that I am not shit unless my mental health game is strong. nothing I do or accomplish out here is going to save me from the river of rage within me. no validation or recognition will silence the woes of my twelfth house Saturn and its domineering glare on the rest of my chart. I have to put in the work. I have to make it matter. I have to move through the anger and decide what it means to me. but I have to make the choice to withstand the Piscean urge to follow these feelings into the abyss. I have to choose connection and put in the effort to steer myself away from the familiar isolation that calls to me from the void.

the only aspects to the sun and Jupiter in the eighth? a sextile to Uranus in the tenth. surprised to see me writing here at this length? me too! will it sustain? IDK, you’ll have to stay tuned won’t you?
